Painter, collage and performance artist, curator
Studied at the Art Studio of Dzerzhinsky District Palace of Pioneers, Leningrad (1965); the Young Art Historians’ Club at the State Russian Museum (1973–1975); the College of Chemical Industry (1973– 1975); the Young Art Lovers Club at the State Hermitage (1976). Exhibited from 1977. Member of the Letopis (Chronicle) group (1977), the Association of Experimental Fine Art (1981), founder and member of the Novye khudozhniki (New Artists) group (1982), the New Academy of Fine Arts (1989). Founder and curator of the Assa Gallery (1980–1987); worked with S. A. Kurekhin’s music band Pop-Mechanics (1982–1983), as an artist and actor on the film Assa (1987); founder and director of the Novaia Akademiia Vsecheskikh Iskusstv (1985), later New Academy of Fine Arts (1989). Co-founder and publisher of the newspaper Khudozhestvennaia volia (Artistic Will, 1998).
