Studied at Leningrad Secondary School of Art (1964–1971); the Repin Institute of Arts (1971–1977) in the Faculty of Painting under V. M. Oreshnikov; the Creative Workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts (1979–1982) under V. M. Oreshnikov. Exhibited from 1976. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1981), the Russian Geographical Society (1984), сo-organiser and member of the Poslednii kit (The Last Whale) art group (1988), member of IFA (2002). Participated in four Arctic expeditions (1976–1987) and one Antarctica expedition (2010–2011).
