Studied at Don University, Rostov-on-Don (1917–1918) in the Faculty of Medicine; Don Archaeological Institute (1919–1921) in the Faculty of Art History; A. F. Gaush’s Art Studio, Petrograd (1921–1924) under M. V. Dobuzhinsky. Exhibited from 1918. Member of the associations Mir iskusstva (World of Art, 1924), Obschina khudozhnikov (Commune of Artists, 1928–1929), the All-Union Trade Union of Art Workers (1927–1929), the Union of Soviet Artists (1932, excluded 1946, reinstated 1954). Worked as an artist in the Detgiz publishing house (1920s–1930s). Taught at Leningrad Technical School of Handicraft Industry (1922–1934), the State Art Polytechnical School, Leningrad (1922–1934), Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineers (1930–1934), the Urals Art and Design College, Nizhny Tagil (1950– 1951). WWII veteran. Main collections: State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), National Library of Russia, State Literary and Memorial Museum of Anna Akhmatova at the Fountain House, State Russian Museum (all St Petersburg), State art museums in Arkhangelsk, Perm, Petrozavodsk and Rostov-on- Don.
