Studied at Terijoki Nonclassical Secondary School (1918–1922); I. Ye. Repin’s private studio (1919–1923); A. I. Savinov’s private studio (1925–1927); VKhUTEIN, Pg–L (1925–1927) under K. S. Petrov- Vodkin, A. I. Savinov and V. V. Lebedev; the Higher Courses of Art History (1927–1928) in the Department of Cinematography under L. Z. Trauberg and G. M. Kozintsev. Exhibited from 1935. Member of the Gruppa zhivopisno-plasticheskogo realizma (Group of Painterly Plasticity Realism) association (1927–1932), the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (1934). Worked as an artist at the Detgiz, Goslitizdat, Lenizdat, Molodaia gvardiia, Khudozhestvennaia literature (Fiction) and other publishing houses (1925–1960s); the Lenfilm studio (1930s), the Experimental Printing Studio of the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (from 1939). Taught at Ufa Art College (1932–1933); Leningrad Institute of Urban Construction Engineers (1934–1940); the House of Architects art studio (1934– 1940); the Repin Institute of Arts (1944–1946); Leningrad House of Cinema art studio (1946–1952).
