The exhibition of the renowned Petersburg painter, graphic, collage and object artist Alexander Agabekov (1936–2016) is timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of his birth. The exhibition will feature works from different periods, including paintings, watercolours and auto-lithographs from the 1960s and 1970s, imbued with a thirst for experimentation, as well as works from later years,  – all revealing an artist of versatile talent with an original creative vision. Landscape motifs in his art were intertwined with genre scenes, figurative images with abstractions, colourful decorativeness with depth of colour solutions, emotional elation with poetic lyricism.

Agabekov's art echoes the traditions of both the European avant-garde (the famous Albert Marquet was his idol) and folk artists. A special place at the exhibition will be given to unique multi-layered and double-sided collages on glass, a technique invented by the artist back in the 1970s and which he continued to perfect throughout his creative career.

The exhibition will include works from MASP collection, the artist's family and private collections.
