The exhibition Dedicated to the Muses. Mosaic in Sculpture is a project of the Museum of the 20th and 21st Century Art of St Petersburg organised in partnership with the State Russian Museum.

Exposition will present for the first time a significant collection of mosaic works by artists of different generations: from classics such as Vladimir Favorsky, Alexander Deineka, and N. Chernyshev (whose works will be on display for the first time) to outstanding contemporaries who have long since earned fame and recognition, such as Alexander Kornoukhov, Felix Bukh, and Valentin Levitin. Translated from Latin, the term "mosaic" means a work dedicated to the muses – hence the exhibition's title.

The exhibition promises to be a highlight in Petersburg's cultural life, thanks to the uniqueness of the material, previously inaccessible to a wider audience. In recent decades, a powerful and interesting trend has emerged in contemporary art, which can be defined as "small-scale" or easel-scale mosaics. Today, artists, whether following traditions or challenging them, are giving mosaics a new lease of life. Using a wide range of materials and textures, and combining mosaics with painting or sculpture, contemporary works offer unexpected and original interpretations of ancient techniques.

The exhibition will feature over 100 mosaic pieces.
The exhibition will be located in the galleries of our museum at 101 Griboyedov Canal.
