Studied at Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema (1954–1959) in the Faculty of Theatre Production under N. P. Akimov. Exhibited since 1959. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1962). Worked as a production designer at the S. M. Tsvilling State Drama Theatre in Chelyabinsk, the Leningrad Comedy Theatre, Theatres for Young Spectators in Riga and Leningrad, the Pushkin Theatre, the K. Marx Drama Theatre in Saratov, the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow), the Bolshoi Drama Theatre and Maly Drama Theatre (both Leningrad) and others (from 1959), at the Lenfilm and 20th Century Fox studios (1963–1987). Winner of the Golden Lighting Strand (2001, 2005) and Golden Mask (2020) Prizes, awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts (2007). Lives and works in St Petersburg. Main collections: A.
