Studied at Leningrad Higher College of Art and Design (1977–1982) in the Department of Artistic Ceramics and Glass; internship at the Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques, Paris (1990). Exhibited since 1980. Member of the Mitki group (1985), the Association of Experimental Fine Art (1985), the USSR Union of Artists (1988), IFA (1990), co-founder and member of the Society of Painting and Drawing Lovers (2004). Worked as an artist for the Detgiz, Lenizdat, Ima-Press, Vremia (Time), Vita Nova, Mitkilibris, Krasnyi matros (Red Sailor), Ciconia and other publishing houses (since 1988); co-author of the animated films Mitki- Mayer (1992), Russian Album (2001) and Trophy Films (2004). Prize-winner of a number of international film festivals. Lives and works in St Petersburg and Tbilisi, Georgia. Main collections: A. S.
