Studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1901–1904); the studio of Heimann and Gardner, Munich (1904–1906). Participant of exhibitions since 1907. Member of associations Golubaia roza (Blue Rose, 1907), Venok – Stefanos (Wreath – Stephanos, 1907–1908), Zolotoe runo (Gold Fleece, 1908–1909), Bubnovyi valet (Jack of Diamonds, 1910), Soiuz molodezhi (Union of Youth, 1911), Oslinyi khvost (Donkey's Tail, 1912), Mishen (Target, 1913), Mir iskusstva (World of Art, 1913), Makovets (1922), Society of Moscow Artists (1928), Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (1928). Teacher, head of the Proletkult Studio of Fine Arts in Tambov (1918, 1926–1927); taught at Nizhny Novgorod Art College (1923); the Moscow Institute of Architecture.
