Studied at the Stroganov Central School of Art and Design in Moscow (1903–1907) under D. A. Scherbinsky and A. E. Arkhipov; the Imperial Academy of Arts in St Petersburg (1907–1912) under A. A. Kiselev and D. N. Kardovsky; the Academy "La Grande Chaumière" in Paris, France (1912–1914). Exhibited from 1909. Member of the associations Studio of Impressionists (1909), Treugolnik (Triangle, 1909), Tovarischestvo nezavisimykh (Partnership of Independent, 1912–1913), Mir iskusstva (World of Art, 1913–1918), the First Workers’ Union of Artists in Petrograd (1918). Illustrated publications on Russian folklore (1910–1913), worked as an artist for the magazines Satirikon (1911–1912), Novyi Satirikon (New Satirikon, 1914); executed Raseya series of artworks (1916–1919), published the eponymous album (1918). Moved from Russia to Berlin, Germany (1919), from 1921 – in Paris, France, in 1920s–1930s lived in the USA and Latin America, from 1927 – in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France.
