Studied at the M. D. Bernshtein and L. V. Sherwood School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture, St Petersburg – Petrograd (1913–1916); the State Institute of Art History, as an external student (1913–1916); the New Artistic Workshop studio (1918) under B. M. Kustodiev and M. V. Dobuzhinsky; the State Free Artistic Workshops, Saratov (1919) under A. I. Savinov; Georgia Academy of Arts, Tiflis, as an external student (1922) under O. A. Charlemagne; the Higher Artistic Workshops, Baku (1923). Exhibited from 1928. Member of the Union of Soviet Artists (1933). Worked as an artist for the Azerbaijani Branch, Baku (1920) and Georgian Branch, Tiflis (1921) of the Russian Telegraph Agency; at the Azerbaijani State Museum, as a researcher (1925–1927); the Experimental Printing Workshop of the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (from 1933); at the Detgiz and other publishing houses (from 1936).
