Studied at Leningrad Surveying Technical College. Exhibited from 1973. Co-founder and member of the INAKI group (1973), the Association of Experimental Fine Art (1981), the Fifth Quarter association (1983) and the Free Culture Humanitarian Foundation (1992). Served as president (1994–2010) and vice-president (2010–2019) of the Free Culture Humanitarian Foundation – Free Culture Partnership. Co-founder of the 21st-Century Ark Cultural Centre (1989), currently Pushkinskaya-10 Art Centre (since 1997). One of the founders of the Museum of Nonconformist Art (1998). Winner of the Tsarskoe Selo Art Prize (2005). Main collections: Museum of Nonconformist Art, S. P. Diaghilev Museum of Contemporary Art, State Hermitage, State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, State Russian Museum (all St Petersburg); Zimmerli Art Museum (New Brunswick, USA).
