Matiushin and A. I. Savinov; GINKhUK (1926– 1927) under K. S. Malevich. Exhibited from 1932. Member of the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (1933). Worked as an artist in the Gosizdat, Detgiz and Detskaia literature (Children’s Literature) publishing houses (1927–1971)); the Experimental Printing Workshop of the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (from 1937); the Boevoi karandash (Fighting Pencil) association (1939–1944). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1976). Awarded the Gold Medal of the USSR Academy of Arts (1981), the I. Ye. Repin State Prize of the RSFSR (1982), the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class (1985) and Order of the Friendship of Peoples (1985). Main collections: A. S.
