Studied at Moscow Secondary School of Art (1955–1962); Moscow State Art Institute (1962–1968) under A. M. Gritsai, D. D. Zhilinsky; the creative workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts (1968–1972) under G. M. Korzhev. Exhibited since 1966. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1969). Professor at the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Academic Institute of Art (since 1999). Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation (2002), People’s Artist of the Russian Federation (2014); Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts (1998), Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (2001). Awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1993), the Silver Medal of the USSR Academy of Arts (1987), the Order of the Russian Academy of Arts For Service to Art (2017). Lives and works in Moscow.
