Studied at K. K. Zelenevsky’s studio, Tomsk (1915–1917); Tomsk University (1917–1918) in the Faculty of Law; Irkutsk University (1919–1920) in the Faculty of History and Philology; the First Irkutsk Art Workshop-Studio (1925–1928) under I. L. Kopylov. Exhibited from 1927. Member of the Society of Irkutsk Artists (1920–1929), AKhR (Association of Artists of the Revolution, 1930–1932), the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (1932). Chairman of the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists (1948–1951). Honoured Art Worker of the RSFSR (1956), People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1975). Main collections: State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, State Russian Museum (both St Petersburg), State art museums in Cherepovets, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Vladivostok, Vologda and others.
