Studied at the I. Ye. Repin Republican Art College in Kishinev, Moldavian SSR (1976–1980); Moscow State Art Institute (1981–1987) under Yu. K. Korolev, T. T. Salakhov; the Le Corbusier Creative Studios in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland (1990–1993). Exhibited since 1983. Member of the ARX group (1984), the USSR Union of Artists (1987), the Furmanny Pereulok association (1987–1991). Recipient of a UNESCO grant (1990–1994), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2017), Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (2021). Awarded the Gold Medal for the Worthy (2017) and the Silver Medal (2019) of the Russian Academy of Arts. Lives and works in Berne, Switzerland (since 1990). Main collections: Moscow Museum of Modern Art, State Tretyakov Gallery (both Moscow), State Russian Museum (St Petersburg).
