Painter, graphic artist, curator
Studied at Leningrad Maritime College (1968–1972); Leningrad Art College (1975–1977). Exhibited since 1979. Member of the Association of Experimental Fine Art (1983), co-founder and member of the groups Piataia chetvert (The Fifth Quarter, 1984) and 7 (1986), member of the associations Free Culture Humanitarian Foundation (1992), IFA (1995). Worked as a chief artist of the company Sokol (1977–1989); painted murals in Orthodox churches, Pskov Region (1980–1982); curated exhibitions of nonconformist Leningrad artists at museums in Veliky Novgorod, Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Moscow, Petrozavodsk and Khabarovsk (since 1982), at the Marsh Art Gallery, Richmond, USA (2002–2008) and elsewhere. Co-founder and director of the Museum of Nonconformist Art (1998–2016); co-founder, vice-president (1998–2008) and president (since 2008) of the Pushkinskaya-10 Art Centre. Main collections: Museum of Nonconformist Art, State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, State Russian Museum (all St Petersburg), Valaam Monastery Museum (Valaam Island), State art museums in Khabarovsk and Petrozavodsk; Zimmerli Art Museum (New Brunswick, USA).
