Studied at N. N. Storozhevsky’s Art School in Kharkov (1920– 1923); Kharkov Technical College of National Economy (1921–1923); VKhUTEIN, Pg–L (1924–1930) under K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, A. I. Savinov and A. Ye. Karev. Exhibited from 1931. Member of the October association (1929–1930), the Association of Artists of the Revolution (1930–1932), co-founder and member of the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (1932). Executive secretary of the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists board (1938–1945). Worked as an artist-designer of public spaces in Leningrad (1930s), chief artist of the Volodarsky District, Leningrad (1934–1938), deputy chairman and chairman of the City Fine Arts Committee (1934–1937), member of the VSERABIS (All-Russian Trade Union of Art Workers) Regional Committee (1937–1938). Taught at Leningrad Institute of Railway Engineers (1938–1940); Leningrad Higher College of Art and Design (1948–1983), Head of the Department of Painting (1957–1981), Professor (1967). Main collections: ROSIZO, State Central Museum of the Modern History of Russia (both Moscow), State Literary and Memorial Museum of Anna Akhmatova at the Fountain House, State Memorial Museum of the Defence and Siege of Leningrad, State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, State Russian Museum (all St Petersburg), State art museums in Arkhangelsk, Cheboksary, Krasnoyarsk and Yaroslavl.
