Studied at M. I. Ignatiev’s studio, St Petersburg (1907); Ye. N. Zvantseva’s Art School (1910s) under M. V. Dobuzhinsky and L. S. Bakst; PGSKhUM – VKhUTEIN, Pg–L (1918–1924) under N. N. Dubovskoi, D. N. Kardovsky and O. E. Braz. Exhibited from 1925. Member of the associations Obschina khudozhnikov (Commune of Artists, 1924–1927), Krug khudozhnikov (Circle of Artists, 1926–1932), the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (1932). One of the leading representatives of the Leningrad School. Main collections: State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), State Literary and Memorial Museum of Anna Akhmatova at the Fountain House, State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, State Russian Museum, Tsarskoe Selo Collection Museum (all St Petersburg), State art museums in Arkhangelsk, Bryansk, Khanty-Mansiysk, Saransk, Saratov and Voronezh.
