Studied at A. I. Savinov’s private studio (1928–1930); Saratov College of Surveying (1930–1934); the Repin Institute of Arts (1934–1940) in the Faculty of Painting under A. A. Osmerkin. Exhibited from 1940. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1944). Served as an artist with the Baltic Fleet (1940–1945). Taught at the Repin Institute of Arts (1945–1947); Leningrad Higher College of Art and Design – St Petersburg State Academy of Art and Design (1949–2000), Professor (1969). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1973). WWII veteran, awarded medals For Merit in Battle, For the Defence of Leningrad, For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945.
