Painter, graphic artist, theatre and cinema artist
Studied at Leningrad Secondary School of Art (1950–1954); Leningrad State Theatre Institute (1958–1962). Exhibited from 1968. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1968). Worked as a stagehand in the Theatre Institute’s Training Theatre (1956–1958); production designer in the Irkutsk Regional Drama Theatre (1962–1965); chief production designer of the Altai Territory Theatre for Young Spectators, Barnaul (1965–1966); an artist of the regional television studio in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (1966–1967); an artist in the Rostorgreklama advertising organisation, Leningrad; worked with volcanological, geological and archaeological expeditions (1968–1977). Taught at Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema – St Petersburg State Academy of Theatre Art (1983–2007). Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Sakha (1999), Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation (2007). Awarded the USSR State Prize (1986), the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1999). Main collections: State Central Theatre Museum (Moscow), State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, State Museum of Theatre and Music, State Russian Museum, Tsarskoe Selo Collection Museum (all St Petersburg), State art museums in Astrakhan, Kazan, Petrozavodsk, Yakutsk.
