Studied at Zima Art School, Irkutsk Region (1956– 1959); Irkutsk Art College (1959– 1964); Leningrad Higher College of Art and Design (1964–1972) in the Department of Monumental and Decorative Painting under P. D. Buchkin, K. L. Iogansen, P. I. Puko and A. A. Kazantsev. Exhibited since 1972. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1975), CKI (1990). Worked at the Leningrad Branch of the RSFSR Art Fund (1980–1985). Teaches at Leningrad Higher College of Art and Design – St Petersburg State Academy of Art and Design (1985–2014, since 2017), Rector (1994–2009), President (2009– 2014), Advisor to the Rector (since 2017); Director of the Centre for Creative Projects at St Petersburg State University of Technology and Design (since 2014), Head of Department (2014–2017). People’s Artist of the Russian Federation (2012); Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (2012), Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (2004). Awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts (2005), the Order Star of Vernadsky 1st class (2006). Lives and works in St Petersburg (since 1964). Main collections: All-Russian Decorative, Applied and Folk Art Museum (Moscow), State Russian Museum (St Petersburg), Kirillo-Belozersky History, Architecture and Art Museum- Reserve (Kirillov), Kurgan Regional Art Museum, Nizhny Tagil Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve; Museum of Enamel (Himmerod, Germany), International Enamel Collection (Kecskemét, Hungary), Barcelona Design Museum (Spain).
