Studied at the House of Pioneers in Petrogradsky District, Leningrad (1931–1938); Leningrad Palace of Pioneers art studio (1935– 1938); Leningrad Secondary School of Art (1939–1942); the Repin Institute of Arts as an undergraduate (1946–1951) in the Faculty of Graphic Art under A. F. Pakhomov, L. F. Ovsiannikov, M. A. Taranov and K. I. Rudakov, and a postgraduate (1951–1955). Exhibited from 1951. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1951), the USSR Union of Journalists (1969). Worked as an artist for the publishing houses Lenizdat (1951–1970s), Detskaia literatura (1980s–1990s), for the magazines Aurora (1969–2002), Neva (1982–1990s). Taught at the Repin Institute of Arts (1952–2002), Dean of the Faculty of Graphic Art (1973), Professor (1976). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1965), People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1982); Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1975), Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1988). WWII veteran, awarded medals For Merit in Battle, For the Defence of Leningrad, For the Capture of Königsberg, For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945. Main collections: A.
