Studied at Vladivostok Art College (1961–1966); the Repin Institute of Arts (1966–1972) in the Faculty of Graphic Art under M. A. Taranov, V. A. Vetrogonsky, V. I. Tiulenev and V. V. Smirnov. Exhibited since 1972. Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1973), the St Petersburg Academy of Contemporary Art association (2016). Worked as an artist for the Khudozhestvennaia literatura (Fiction), Detgiz, Detskaia literatura (Children’s Literature), Malysh (Kid), Kniga (Book), Lenizdat, Limbus Press, Vita Nova and other publishing houses (since 1970); an art editor of the magazine Iskusstvo Leningrada (Art of Leningrad, 1986–1989); head artist of the publishing house Biblioteka “Zvezdy” (Library of the Magazine Star, 1992–1994). Founder and director of the International Biennials (2002–2008) and Triennials (2011–2017) of Graphic Art in St Petersburg. Taught at the V. I. Surikov Institute of Arts, Krasnoyarsk (1972–1974); the Repin Institute of Arts (1986–1989); Professor of the Institute of Design, Applied Art and Humanities Education, St Petersburg (1998–2016); Honorary Professor of the N. Isanov Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transport and Architecture, Bishkek (2012), the Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, China (2012) and Beijing University, China (2012–2017). Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation (2003), Corresponding Member of the Academy of the Humanities (2004), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (2015). Awarded the medal For Distinction in Labour (1986); an official commendation from the President of the Russian Federation (2020). Lives and works in St Petersburg (since 1966). Main collections: A.
