Additional programme for the exhibition "Light and Air. Impressionist Traditions in Soviet Painting" will open with a lecture by Anton Uspensky, a leading researcher of the State Russian Museum, art historian, artist and writer.
Soviet Impressionism is a creative product – a fusion of impression and idea, a compromise between a study and a finished painting, a stage between observation and composition. The aim of the exhibition is to represent the history of style, to give a feeling of its peculiar Russian accents. It is interesting to consider other genres besides the obligatory still life and landscape: portrait and figure in interior and plein air, domestic and industrial scenes, intimate compositions. The artworks in the exposition are predominantly little-known, which provides additional opportunities for a researcher, as well as to the wider public. Paintings from over twenty Russian museum collections will be on display.
