At the Artistic Walks around St Petersburg study sessions, children will learn about history and culture of the city on the Neva through the prism of art by Leningrad and St Petersburg artists, and will look at familiar places and landscapes in a new way. During our virtual tours we shall admire the views of the northern capital captured by the artists in various periods of time, learn interesting facts about the past and present of St Petersburg, fill in the pages of the creative notebook and, of course, play!
At the first session we shall talk about the city foundation - we shall go back in time and see what St Petersburg was like when it was first “born” in the time of Peter the Great. We shall be accompanied on our tour by the works of artists from the museum's collection. We shall see the most important sights of Peter the Great's Petersburg – the Summer Garden, Admiralty, Peter and Paul Fortress and others. We shall compare modern views of the city with historical ones and discuss why artists depict them this way.
The cycle consists of five study sessions, which will take place once a month on Sundays.
Recommended for children aged 10–12.
