MASP has been given a new building by the Petersburg government. It is located at 101 Griboyedov Canal. The immediate proximity of the new and old buildings makes it possible to create a Museum complex in the city centre, aiming to popularise not only the twentieth century classical, traditional art, but also various modern artistic phenomena of the twenty-first century.
The collection of the Museum founded in 1990 is 35 years old. In December 2015, the Museum of 20th–21st Century Art of St Petersburg Art (MASP), an affiliated body of the Manege Central Exhibition Hall, was created by the decision of the St Petersburg Committee for Culture. It is located at the 103 Griboyedov Canal. MASP has launched extensive exhibition and educational programmes.
The museum collection covers the widest range of art trends and styles from the 1920s to the present day. In 2023, a significant event in Petersburg cultural life took place: the collection of the Museum of Nonconformist Art was donated to MASP by the Free Culture Partnership association (Pushkinskaya-10). As a result, the MASP collection currently numbers around 12,000 art objects, including paintings, graphics, sculpture, objects, decorative and applied arts, and photographs.
