Art Therapy at MASP | Activity “The Hero’s Way”

Most myths, fairy tales or film scripts have a common plot structure – a hero, be it Hercules from Greek myths, Ivan Tsarevich from Russian fairy tales or Luke Skywalker from the George Lucas film Star Wars, when called upon, sets off on a journey, overcomes hardships, finds allies, and returns home at the end, most often with a reward.

At the beginning of the activity we shall try to find similarities between different myths of the peoples from around the world and then we shall draw, performing tasks within the framework of art-therapeutic techniques. At the end of the session, we shall go to the Mythological Suite exhibition, where we shall discuss the hero's way in Tatiana Leonova’s artworks. The whole of her life she has been inspired by the art of the ancient world, mythological and biblical subjects, and once even designed a gift edition of Ovid's epic poem Metamorphoses and a book about the myths of Ancient Greece and the exploits of Heracles.
